Herat Province:

Herat is one of Afghanistan’s most historically and culturally rich provinces. Located in the western part of the country, it shares borders with Iran to the west and Turkmenistan to the north, making it a key hub for trade and cultural exchange. It is the second most populous province after Kabul.

• Ethnic Groups: Primarily Tajiks, with Pashtuns, Hazaras, Turkmens, and others
• Languages: Persian (Dari) is the main language; Pashto and Turkmen are also spoken
• Main Religion: Islam (mostly Sunni, with some Shia minorities)

🏛 Historical Significance:

Herat is known as the “Pearl of Khorasan” due to its rich cultural heritage. It has been a center of Persian culture, art, architecture, and literature for centuries.

• Founded in ancient times, it was a key city in the Achaemenid Empire and later under the rule of Alexander the Great.
• During the Timurid Dynasty (14th–15th centuries), Herat became a major center of Islamic art and learning.
• The city has many historic mosques, forts, minarets, and libraries.
